Motorcycles are highly prized by thieves. The motorcycle as a whole may
be stolen or parts of it may be removed to be sold later.
In either case, it means a lot of trouble for the owner as well as
financial loss in some cases. You can secure your motorcycle properly by
taking various precautions.
Some police tips:
Always take the ignition key out even during a short stop, leave the
steering wheel locked and tie the frame of the bike to a stable object
(such as a fence) with a steel cable or chain. This prevents the bike
from being stolen in its entirety.
If possible, use a brake disk lock. This is very stable and blocks the
brake disk completely.
Mark each of the main parts (e.g. wheel rims, windscreen or luggage
holder) indelibly. Cycles are often stolen to take them apart and sell
the parts separately. Marked parts are not of much interest to thieves
and make it easier to catch the thief - if the parts were registered by
the owner.
Park your vehicle in busy and well-lit places and look for guarded
garages/multi-storey car parks.
